AC Not Draining and Water on the Ceiling in Jamaica beach

What the customer reported

A Jamaica beach homeowner reported that the system was not draining properly.

What we found and did

Adrian and Gamaliel found the drain line backed up and the unit unleveled. The drain pan was not installed properly and was tilting downward and away from the unit, the cutoff switch in the pan was not operating, and the pan was full at the switch end and had leaked some onto the ceiling. There was no obstruction in the drain line from the access port to the exterior, so the blockage was upstream of that. The team cleared the drains with a drain flush, attempted to re-level the unit the best they could, and propped the pan upwards so water could drain out the emergency drain line.

AC Not Cooling After Hours in Jamaica Beach

What the customer reported

A Jamaica Beach homeowner reported that the unit was not cooling.

What we found and did

Aaron and Gabriel found that the dual run capacitor was reading lower than rated, the drain line was severely backed up with no way to service it, and the float switch had been tripped. They also found that the outdoor condensing unit had no service caps. They replaced the run capacitor, added service caps, cleared the drain line, and added a serviceable area for the drain line by installing a ball valve and clean out.

AC Running Nonstop and Not Reaching 74 in Jamaica Beach

What the customer reported

A Jamaica Beach homeowner reported the air conditioner was not keeping up with the thermostat: set at 74 degrees, it read 76 degrees and ran without stopping for 5 to six hours. With 81 degrees outside, the house was only 5 degrees cooler inside, even though the air felt cold coming from the vents.

What we found and did

Adrian found the unit was low on refrigerant, with no leaks found on the evaporator coil or condenser coil. He used stop-leak and charged the system with a little over 2 lbs of refrigerant.

What Jamaica Beach customers say about our ac repair work

I highly recommend this AC technician and company! He was able to come out the same day, quickly diagnosed the problem, and fixed several issues that been missed by a previous technician. He was knowledgeable, professional, and took the time to make sure everything was working properly before he left. It was such a relief to finally have someone who knew what they were doing and got the job done right. Excellent service from start to finish. We have been happy with this company since day one when they installed our system.

FAQ

AC Repair in Jamaica Beach: questions answered

Answered by our licensed technicians serving Jamaica Beach.

Why does my AC keep losing refrigerant in Galveston?

Salt air corrodes copper refrigerant lines, creating pinhole leaks that let refrigerant escape slowly over weeks or months. This is the most common AC repair issue on the Gulf Coast. Topping off refrigerant without finding and fixing the leak is temporary: the corrosion is ongoing and will create new leak points.

How fast can you get to my house for an AC emergency?

We provide same-day and 24/7 emergency AC repair across Galveston, Texas City, League City, Dickinson, La Marque, and Santa Fe. Our trucks carry the parts that fail most often in coastal systems (capacitors, contactors, and fan motors), so most repairs are completed in one visit.

My AC is running but the house won't cool below 80. What's wrong?

In Galveston, the most likely cause is salt buildup on your condenser coils reducing heat transfer efficiency. Your system runs constantly but can't reject heat effectively. Heavy corrosion requires coil cleaning or replacement with a marine-grade coated unit. Low refrigerant from corroded lines is the second most common cause.

Is it worth repairing my AC or should I replace it?

For coastal systems, we use a straightforward guideline: if the repair exceeds 40% of a new system's cost and the unit is over 8 years old, replacement usually makes more financial sense. An 8-year-old system in Galveston has the equivalent wear of a 12-year-old system in Dallas due to salt exposure and extended run times.

Why did my AC stop working after a storm?

Power surges during tropical storms and thunderstorms commonly blow capacitors and can damage compressor windings. Check your breaker panel first: a tripped breaker is the simplest fix. If the breaker holds but the system won't start, a blown capacitor is the most likely culprit. We carry replacements on every truck.
